In One Day at a Time, you take on the role of an active heroin addict. You live with your girlfriend Lydia, who is also an addict but will eventually find sobriety. Along the way, you will meet several other women, with the chance to either romance them or, in some cases, corrupt them. You will face many important decisions on your journey toward recovery. How you choose to embrace your new way of life is entirely up to you.
Spoiler:
Although the game deals with heavy subject matter, it also contains plenty of humanity and humor. These are not stereotypical street junkies. I wanted to shed light on what it’s really like to be addicted to drugs, what it takes to maintain that lifestyle, and ultimately, what it means to say “enough is enough” and choose to get clean. This game is very personal to me and is based on past experiences. All the characters are fictional, but the lifestyle is not. Since I am anonymous here, I’d like to share that I’ve been sober for over 16 years—just so no one thinks I’m currently living this life. But I certainly did.
